Grade 5

Grade 5 is the second class of the upper primary level.At the upper primary level most activities are open ended allowing the learner to plan their own work to obtain the desired results. The following are recommended teaching methodologies for teachers of grade 5.

Role play– Organize learners in small groups and allow them practice what you have been teaching them.Role play builds cognitive skills and imagination to the child.
Activity or experimentation method where learners are supplied with equipments,tools and materials together with instructions which they will use to investigate or illustrate a concept.
Outdoor activities Which involves practical observation of things outside the classroom setting. This method will assist learners to relate whatever they are being taught with the real world.
Guided discovery is a method where the learner is encouraged to find out information on their own. This method will assist the learner to acquire problem solving skills and also broadens the learners, learning base.
Drawing and coloring allows learners to express themselves in a pictorial representation. Drawing allows learners to build their creativity by harnessing the power of their minds. Drawing also improves concentration of your learners.
Songs and poems. When information is put on songs and rhythm, learning becomes easier. Songs and poems do not merely provide a diversion from other learning experiences .They help learners remember information because of the use of pattern and music.
Participating in discussion groups will allow learners to exchange information without any fear. Participating in discussion groups will also allow learners to build their confidence, develop communication skills and enhance their critical thinking.
Question and answer method This method helps learners of grade 5 to recall facts and basic concepts. This method also assist learners to provide explanations regarding new concepts.
Visualizations-The use of photographs or pictures allows learners to visualize things that are being taught .They will also help learners to symbolize iconically hence assisting them to internalize more effectively.
