Grade 1 is the introductory class of the upper primary level.At this stage,the learner is still developing writing and speaking abilities. Learners of this level are required to be taken around their immediate environment so as to relate what they are being taught to what they are seeing.The following are subjects being taught in grade 1

Grade 1 teaching methodologies

(a) Visualizations

Using visual  arts enhances learning capabilities. Print pictorials and show them during your teaching class. Use real life tangible evidence of items i.e. when demonstrating on how to harvest seeds from fruit, demonstrate using a real fruit.

(b) Group discussions

Group the leaners and give them objects of different colors, shapes and sizes. Let them identify the colors and shape names.Let the learner arrange the objects in order of sizes.Use stop watch to assign limits for each activity.

(c) Questions and answers

Ask the learners to look at the pictures in the learners book and ask them to say the colors, name the objects, shapes and describe the sizes of the objects displayed..

(e) Teacher explanation

Explain to the learners what you are expecting them to learn. Using objects to describe learning outcomes creates a visual appeal of the content being taught i.e using an aquarium or a fish pond to teach a topic on fish.
